As a sophomore: Did not play due to injury

As a freshman: Pitched in nine games, three starts ... Allowed one earned run in 5.1 innings in win against Holy Cross.

At Staples High School: Winkler lettered four years in baseball and soccer, captaining both his senior year. In 2003,the team MVP led the baseball team to a Division Championship. In 2001, his team was Co-FCIAC Champs and State Champions. He was named 2003 Scholar-Athlete.
